Backyard Studio/Granny Flat
A custom backyard dwelling featuring a bathroom and loft was constructed on a challenging narrow site. Project scope encompassed comprehensive interior and exterior finishes. Site constraints required manual material transport via a restricted access path. Meticulous organization and site management were essential for successful project delivery.
The clients needed a space to work from home, and area for their daughter to have a play area - we achieved this area with the loft. We created the colourful stairs as a fun way to access the play area. This space can also be used as a spearate studio for their daughter when she is older.
The project maximizes space by incorporating a steep pitched roof to create a loft area.
The simple structure features James Hardie cladding, Colorbond metal roofing, and polished concrete flooring. Dark exterior colors were chosen to help the building visually recede into the background, as the eye naturally looks through darker shades rather than focusing on them.
